Most Popular Layouts in Z Scale was created by subwayaz
Being most familiar with N Scale; the more popular layouts are built on "Hollow Core Doors".
So with that said is there a more popular type of Z Scale layouts? Like Hollow Core DOor Layouts or similar?
Thanks for your time in responding.

The Southern Pacific still Lives in my area of modeling ;)

I have not heard too much about hollow doors. May of us use 1" x 4"s as frames. The average size is 2' x 4' . Polystyrene foam is used as the base and to build up the layout layers. This is a very light weight, yet strong, layout construction. I have used it for my home layout and our club uses it for our modules. You can see the foam and support structure from my home layout below:

I imagine a hollow core door would work just fine.
For me, it is going to be on a coffee table. Running trains and drinking coffee, to me, go perfect together. So, why not combine them?

Nice I like that. I did something similar for my first Z layout but not near as detailed. I'll get there I'm sure

That test loop that I laid out real quick is 3' x 2'. Plenty big and light as well I must add. 2" Foamboard was used for the base.

Plenty of room for scenery tracks and train action once planned out right.
I have several pieces of MT track left plus some flex track not used as yet.

Here is a fairly popular Z size: 3'x4' I did this one for a fellow in Iowa in 2008. I like the HCD for Z however, in that it is portable to some extent, and gives good running. Jim

Hey Jim your 3' X 4' looks plenty big and lots of train action. NIce layout also I must add.
