Interesting & colorful layout rocks. was created by soccrdad30
Went to the Gratiot Valley Train Show in Macomb, Michigan. I always find it interesting to 'discover' new & different products. Here are some photos I took of this particular table of rocks. The rocks vary in price from $3.00 each to $12.00 each. The sizes of the rocks vary from 3" by 3" to as big as 12" long by 6" deep.
Now for the big question!!! Can anyone tell me what the rocks are made of?!

The way it was cut in the third picture down- I'd guess insulation foam... just a guess. I'd like to know how rock formations were made. For "Wood Mountain" I used a wire wheel on drill to get very interesting rock shapes.
I have also used actual stone- shale- etc from various states--coral,lava, and even barnacles for scenic effect, not to mention twigs and other natural stuff.

Some kind of foam would be my guess as well, the dark area in the last picture mainly makes me think this.
Can't say what kind though, except it's not the hard pink/blue foam that is commonly used as layout base in Z.

Looks surprisingly similar to an ex-wife of mine’s attempt at baking… not anything in particular… just baking.
